Occasionally, a few film-makers do manage to ring the changes. Yes, Gwyneth Paltrow was kidnapped in Iron Man 3, but at least it didn't stop there (if you've seen the film, you'll know what I mean) which perhaps is some sort of minor atonement by its director and co-writer, Shane Black, for having virtually built his career on writing screenplays in which daughters got kidnapped (Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, The Long Kiss Goodnight).
